Description from TED website:
TED Fellow Carrie Nugent is an asteroid hunter — part of a group of scientists working to discover and catalog our oldest and most numerous cosmic neighbors. Why keep an eye out for asteroids? In this short, fact-filled talk, Nugent explains how their awesome impacts have shaped our planet, and how finding them at the right time could mean nothing less than saving life on Earth.

My Review / Notes / Thoughts

This talk would be a great addition to a parent who is homeschooling their kids as well as teachers both in the classroom and teaching virtually.

While the talk is a few years old now, it still has some great applications to students’ education when it comes to science. The video is short, so you don’t have to worry about students losing their attention. But, with some carefully thought out prompts, it could be a way to spark discussion and discovery.

For example, you could have students watch the video and then discuss the progression that NASA has made since 2016 in the discovery of asteroids. Or have them discuss means of preventing asteroids from impacting the earth. You might even have them research the history of different impacts of asteroids. There are so many possibilities!

I hope you take a few minutes to watch this brief video. What questions come to your mind as you watch it? How could you see utilizing this video in an educational setting?
